Belief system
Cherokee beliefs stem from the tribe's relationship with nature, and the connection with the world. The tribe believed that the world was flat, and each corner was connected to a string, all held up together by the moon, or as they called it the “sky vault”.
beliefs
The Cherokee believed that they were the “principal people” on this floating island. They believed in and respected nature as the overarching power, and all of the creature on earth had a role to play. Everything from an ant on the ground to a bear, or a small pond of water to a mountain range had power and helped develop the social structures in the Cherokee community.
Like in Christianity people believe that God is a sort of supernatural being and the above all else, the Cherokee saw aspects of nature in the same way. |
